Collier Row Mosque in Chase Cross Road applied to Havering Council last month to vary a previous planning condition, limiting the its opening times.
The topic of the mosque’s hours has seen the council and Iqra Educational & Cultural Centre, responsible for running the place of worship, go back and forth on numerous occasions.
When the venue was first opened in 1999, it was only allowed to operate between 6am and 3pm on Sundays and from 6pm to 9pm on Mondays.
Since then, there have been a number of applications seeking to make changes and extend the hours of operation.
At present, the place of worship is open from 12pm to 7.30pm Monday to Friday, and from 12pm to 5.30pm on weekends and bank holidays.
These hours were secured as permanent in a conditional approvement by the council in January last year.
In its most recent application, Iqra Educational & Cultural Centre requested permission to open from 11am to 10pm throughout the week.

A decision by Havering Council was made on April 14, revealing that the application has been refused.
The council stated that the impact of the change of hours would be likely to have a knock-on impact on the surrounding residential buildings as a result of “a greater degree of coming and goings”.
A reason for the refusal was given, claiming that “inevitably the proposal would result in unacceptable levels of noise and disturbance to the amenities of such occupiers at the time when the nearby residential occupiers expect a degree of calm and tranquillity”.
