John Keane repeatedly stole from the M&S shop at the BP petrol station on Carshalton Road.
Between August 7 and November 21 he stole almost £600 worth of stock, sometimes returning three times a day to steal more.
Keane, 47, of nearby Alexandra Gardens, admitted 23 charges of theft from a shop.
At Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 27, he was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison.
Magistrates said an immediate prison sentence was necessary as there is no realistic prospect of rehabilitation at this point.
A Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) was granted banning him from entering any BP M&S shop for five years.
