AVA Grill London has taken over the premises at 222 South Street, after previous occupant Smokey’s Shack closed down after launching in 2018.
The restaurant was first mentioned in 2023 after an Instagram page was set up for the premises, featuring CGI images of future plans for the interior and exterior design.
222 South Street has had a long history of use, dating back to 1933 when it was built as a builders merchants.
Manager Aziz Choudhury revealed to this paper on October 8 that minor work is soon set to wrap up at the site, with a target opening hoped for in November.
He added: “Finally we’re coming to a time where most of the work has been completed and we’re expected to open in November.

“It has been closed for so long, it needed a lot of investment in that place.
“All this time this was a steakhouse. If you go back to Smokey’s Shack and The Brickyard, it always was a steakhouse so we didn’t want to change the concept.”
An exact opening date has not been confirmed at this stage.
