“I think the problem is they just shout. They don’t actually ever have serious or practical plans to tackle these serious problems.” Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has slammed Reform UK over their immigration and asylum policy, saying that all the right-wing populist party does is ‘shout at the sea’ without a proper plan. Nigel Farage and his party have sought to make immigration their number one issue, as they seek to exploit the issue for political gain. They have also tried to capitalise on the public’s concern over small boat crossings, saying they would stop the boats, but without actually…

Nigel Farage has also been making ‘dangerous’ claims about a police cover-up. Reform’s youngest council leader, George Finch admitted at a press conference yesterday that he risked breaking the law over his comments about an ongoing rape trial. Two men have been charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. During the press conference yesterday, councillor Finch, the recently elected leader of Warwickshire County Council and Nigel Farage, claimed there had been a “cover-up” of details about the alleged rape. In his speech, Finch said he had been “begging” police to release details of the immigration statuses…

‘No other political party appears to be receiving this special treatment’ Campaign group Best for Britain has welcomed what it says are changes made by Sky News when it comes to its coverage of Reform UK, after the broadcaster received thousands of complaints over a ‘lack of balance’. Last week, Sky News broadcast two press conferences organised by Reform UK on two consecutive days. One of these broadcasts saw Sky News cut away from the Lionesses’ victory parade through London for coverage of Nigel Farage being interviewed by former Reform UK party Chairman Zia Yusuf. Best for Britain set up…

His comments at a press conference have been contrasted with past policies For a man who’s made a political career out of migrant-bashing politics, you’d have thought Nigel Farage would have at least figured out what he wants to do about migration. His latest press conference would suggest otherwise. At the event, Farage was asked a question about where he wanted to see asylum seekers deported to. In response, Farage was forthright, saying: “Sorry. I’ve had enough of this. If you come from Afghanistan, you go back to Afghanistan. End of. “This idea, we can’t send people to certain countries,…

“Introducing VAT on private health provision could provide vital funding for the NHS and social care.” The former Labour leader Neil Kinnock has called for the government to introduce VAT on private healthcare in order to help finance public services. Estimates from the Good Growth Foundation suggest doing so, with exemptions for NHS use of private hospitals, could raise around £2 billion. Kinnock said: “Introducing VAT on private health provision could provide vital funding for the NHS and social care. “After 14 years of underinvestment, many people are turning to private healthcare not out of choice, but because they cannot…

What does she really believe? The Tory leader Kemi Badenoch issued a heavy criticism of the Labour government’s economic policies in the Telegraph this weekend. Alone, this would be unremarkable. An opposition leader criticising the government is hardly surprising. What was significant was the nature of that criticism. Badenoch wrote “For all their mocking of Liz Truss, Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves have not learnt the lessons of the mini-budget and are making even bigger mistakes. “They continue to borrow more and more, unable and unwilling to make the spending cuts needed to balance the books.” These comments mark one…

Seven countries stand out for having over 90% of their bathing waters rated as excellent, and all of them operate water services that are more than 90% publicly owned. Britain’s troubled water industry has dominated headlines recently, following a landmark review described as the most significant since the sector was privatised in the 1980s. The wide-ranging report was led by Sir Jon Cunliffe, a veteran civil servant and former deputy governor of the Bank of England. It lays out 88 recommendations aimed at reshaping the way water is managed across the UK. Key proposals include the establishment of a single…

“The government can and must act urgently.” The government is being urged to act urgently to cap the cost of rents, following new research that shows tenants in Britain are now paying an average of £417 more per month compared to five years ago, a 44 percent increase that far outpaces wage growth. Outside London, average monthly rents have climbed to £1,365, marking a 3.9 percent rise from this time last year. In the capital, rents have hit a record high of £2,712 per month.
