There are numerous reports of workers being assaulted, spat at and verbally abused Workers hired by councils to remove flags are being intimidated and abused by members of the public. Since the summer, activists have attached St George’s and Union Jack flags to lampposts and painted roundabouts across the country as part of the Operation Raise the Colours campaign. The campaign was co-founded by Andrew Currien (also known as Andy Saxon), a longtime ally and former bodyguard of Tommy Robinson (real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon). The rise in flag displays has coincided with increasing anti-migrant rhetoric, protests, and racist incidents over…
The Labour party had pledged during the election not to increase taxes on working people, and subsequently ruled out any rise in national insurance, VAT or income tax. A clear majority of Labour Party members would support breaking the party’s manifesto pledges on tax, if it meant greater investment in public services, as pressure continues to grow on the chancellor to implement bolder measures to boost economic growth ahead of the budget next month. A poll of party members carried out by Survation on behalf of LabourList found that 76% of those asked said that they would back a rise…
What’s behind the Trump administration’s transatlantic provocations on UK free speech and who does the dark agenda really belong to? The ‘free speech’ debate is wrapped in confusion. Political commentators agonise over questions such as ‘ Does the UK really have free speech? Are we too strict? Not strict enough? How can the US be so self-contradictory? And how do we negotiate with the US in this incredibly difficult and sensitive territory? Donald Trump’s attitude to the free speech debate seems baffling. We witness the glaring contradiction of his administration relentlessly condemning European countries for restricting free speech, allegedly in…
Polanski did not appear on Kuenssberg’s show at his party’s conference, but the interview has now been rescheduled amid complaints Zack Polanski, Green Party leader in England and Wales, will be given an in-depth interview with Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday 19 October. This follows accusations from Green Party supporters that the BBC has showed anti-green bias. The Greens noted that Kuenssberg interviewed every other political leader at their party conferences. The BBC cancelled Polanski’s interview at Green party conference. They cited “overlapping party conferences” and news of the Manchester synagogue attack as reasons. On 5 October during his party’s conference,…
Robert Ford was elected to represent Maidstone Rural West in May’s local elections and will now sit as an independent until investigations into the allegations are complete. Yet another Reform UK councillor has been suspended, as the party’s elected representatives continue to make the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The party has confirmed that it has suspended a Kent County Councillor over what it calls an “unofficial complaint” from several female members of staff. The BBC reports: “Robert Ford was elected to represent Maidstone Rural West in May’s local elections and will now sit as an independent until investigations…
‘This discussion about waste is generally misleading, we’ve had 14 years of Tory austerity which has cut spending to the absolute bone.’ Reform councillor Laila Cunningham claimed that Reform councils had saved £100 million since May, and that there were billions to be saved by cutting diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) and sustainability initiatives. The Politics Live presenter questioned her on the fact that eight Reform councils have indicated they may need to raise council tax, despite the party’s promises to cut waste. Cunningham dismissed this, saying: “This is all rumours from the press,” even though senior council officials have…

Truss said she would launch her own social media platform, believing that the ‘establishment media’ have failed her. Earlier in the year, disgraced former Prime Minister Liz Truss, who was booted out of office after just 49 days, announced that she would launch her own ‘free speech’ social media platform in the summer. Truss, who has never accepted responsibility for her disastrous mini-budget which sent markets into turmoil and the pound crashing as well as adding hundreds of pounds to peoples’ mortgages, has always blamed the ‘deep state’ and others for her downfall. She has continuously tried to whip up…
‘It’s the Trump playbook’ Speaking at a crypto conference in London yesterday, Nigel Farage declared himself the sector’s champion, promising to “bring crypto in from the cold”. Farage’s words mirror Donald Trump’s attempt at attracting donations and political support from crypto investors in the run-up to the 2024 US Presidential Election. The Reform leader told crypto investors at the Digital Asset Summit in London: “When it comes to your industry, when it comes to growth in this industry, then I am your champion. We will effectively bring crypto in from the cold.” Referring to Farage’s pitch, one attendee told the…
Electoral reform will not transform our political culture overnight, but refusing to confront fragmentation will make effective governance permanently impossible. By Tom Brake, Director of Unlock Democracy If you want to see what happens when politics gets stuck in the past, look no further than France. The country’s descent into near-ungovernability – a fractured parliament, fragile coalitions, and fiscal paralysis – is not simply the product of President Emmanuel Macron’s missteps or public discontent over the cost of living or changes to the retirement age. It is the consequence of a deeper structural mismatch: a fragmented party system straining against…
