The tragedy occurred shortly after 1.39pm (8.09am GMT) on June 12 on Air India’s Flight AI171 bound for London Gatwick.
The journey was due to last more than nine hours but just 30 seconds after take-off, the plane carrying twelve flight staff and 230 passengers crashed.
A huge fireball was captured erupting from the scene of the incident, where the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had crashed with a hostel building connected to a hospital.
The incident has left just one lone survivor, British national 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.
Another 52 Britons are understood to have been passengers on the flight, some of whom are from East Ham.
Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz OBE confirmed that “members of our community were on the Air India flight that tragically crashed”.
The loss has left the community reeling and council colleagues and residents grieving.
Mayor Fiaz said: “When we first heard the tragic news of the Air India crash yesterday, our thoughts immediately went out to the families and friends of all those affected, including in Ahmedabad.
“We knew many in our own community would be concerned at the news, and now we know the desperately sad news that this global tragedy has directly affected our own close knit community of Newham.
“I know I speak for all in the borough when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of Flight AI171.

“We know very little at this stage, and we expect to hear more details in the days to come.
“For now, we must grieve as a community, and we offer what support we can for the loved ones of those who have died or been injured.”
Further details of the local loss has yet to be confirmed by Newham Council however, the BBC understands two people from Newham have died. This has yet to be confirmed.
