Overall crime numbers at the station and on-trains actually fell last year compared to the previous 12 months, according to the latest British Transport Police (BTP) data.
But the number of violent incidents and sexual offences increased over the same time period.
Between February 2023 and January 2024, there were 70 incidents of crime at the station, 19 of which were classified as being violent or sexual in nature.
Over the subsequent year, the number of total incidents dropped to 52, but almost half of these were violent or sexual.
On-train crime at the station showed a similar trend, with the overall crime numbers falling, but the number of violent or sexual incidents increasing.
Abbey Wood is the closest station to Thamesmead, which currently does not have a station of its own.
At Plumstead, which is the town’s second-closest station, the total number of crime incidents increased over the same period, including those that were violent or sexual in nature.
Crime committed on Southeastern or Thameslink trains at the station more than halved, but reports of violence or sexual offences increased from two incidents to four.
