Established in the 1950s, Erith-based Batt Cables – a cable supplier – has appointed joint administrators Sam Woodward and Dan Edkins of EY-Parthenon.
The move potentially impacts hundreds of jobs, with 334 people employed across the UK and in Europe including its Kent-based headquarters.
Administrators say that the company has “ongoing” financial issues as a result of the “challenging” market conditions and has not been able to secure necessary funding.
In a statement administrators confirmed that the company would continue to trade during insolvency.
Seventy people have already been made redundant and it is not known whether any further redundancies will follow.
A number of staff will remain employed to assist the joint administrators in the sale of the Company.
In a statement, the joint administrators said: “On Tuesday 6 January 2026 Sam Woodward and Dan Edkins of EY-Parthenon were appointed joint administrators of Batt Cables Limited.
“Established in 1952, Batt Cables is a leading global supplier of electrical, data, control, and specialist cables, supplying companies across the UK, mainland Europe, USA and Asia.
“The company employs 334 people in the UK and Europe and is headquartered in Erith, Kent.
“It operates nine further sites across the UK and seven sites across Europe, with its main European site in Rotterdam.
“The company has encountered ongoing liquidity difficulties due to challenging market conditions in recent years.
“Despite efforts to secure the long-term future of the business, it has not been possible to obtain the necessary funding to enable continued trading.
“As a result, Batt Cables has been placed into administration.
“The company is continuing to trade in insolvency whilst the joint administrators explore options for the sale of the business.
“Regrettably, 70 employees have been made redundant with immediate effect.
“A number of employees will be retained to assist the joint administrators in the sale of the company.
“All impacted employees are being offered appropriate support and advice.”
