The figures were released by the Department for Education and detailed schools’ performances across the 2024/25 GCSEs.
We looked at how Havering’s government funded schools were ranked and asked each of the top five to comment on their achievements.
Schools were ranked on their Attainment 8 score which is based on how well pupils have performed in up to eight qualifications including English, maths, three English Baccalaureat qualifications including sciences, computer science, history, geography and languages, and three additional approved qualifications.
The percentage of pupils who achieved grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs was also documented.

The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School in St Mary’s Lane, Upminster saw the second highest Attainment 8 score with 58.1 behind only Sacred Heart of Mary’s Girls School.
A total of 70.8pc of students achieved grade 5 or higher in English and maths at The Coopers’ Company and Coborn School – the highest of all government funded schools in the borough.
Headteacher Sue Hay told the Recorder she was “absolutely thrilled” with the students’ performance.”
She said: “To be recognised as one of Havering’s top-performing schools – including the strongest results at maths and English – is a testament to the incredible commitment and effort shown by every one of them.
“Their success is also a reflection of the outstanding dedication from our staff, who consistently go above and beyond, and the unwavering support we receive from our parents.
“At Coopers Coborn, we live by our motto, ‘Love as Brethren’, and it’s this spirit of mutual support and community that underpins these fantastic achievements.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our entire school community.”

Hornchurch High School in Broadstone Road was ranked third with an Attainment 8 score of 53.9 and 61.3pc of pupils achieving a grade 5 or higher in English and maths.

Headteacher Serena Madhvani said: “Our recent results reflect the dedication and high standards that define Hornchurch High.
“I’m incredibly proud of what our students and staff have achieved yet again.
“We’re proud to be a place where students aspire, believe, and achieve every day.
“It is the fabric of who we are.”
The Campion School in Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch placed fourth with an Attainment 8 score of 52.7 and 62.3pc of pupils achieving a grade 5 or above in English and maths.
Closely behind with an Attainment 8 score of 51.3 The Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls in Brentwood Road, Romford.
Emilie Darabasz, headteacher at The Frances Bardsley Academy, said she was also “incredibly proud” of the pupil’s achievements.
She added: “Their success reflects not only their hard work and resilience, but also the dedication of our staff and the strong support of our families.
“We are committed to providing a nurturing, aspirational environment for girls, and it is wonderful to see that reflected in these results.
“We are delighted to be recognised among the top performing schools in Havering and will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.”
Sacred Heart of Mary’s Girl School and The Campion School did not respond to us when asked for a comment.
