The inaugural Romford Short Film Festival will take place from November 14 to 16 at the Lumiere cinema, at the Mercury Shopping Centre, with more than 100 short films planned across 13 sessions.
Part of the Romford Film Festival family, it aims to highlight the “incredible work of short filmmakers” from around the world.
The organisers said filmmakers will be available for a Q&A with the audience after their movies have been screened.
Festival director Spencer Hawken said: “As Romford Film Festival grows each year, it’s been harder to make selections.
“This year we decided to create a third Romford-branded film festival—one that celebrates the incredible work of short filmmakers.”
With this new event, they aim to create a “dedicated space to honour the artistry, innovation, and storytelling that makes short-form cinema so special”.
Among the films on the agenda are Brazilian documentaries exploring accessibility activism, Ukrainian student films examining identity, and Israeli stories about biracial experience.
The festival will also welcome back “familiar faces”. including Ajitpal Babbra, a local filmmaker who will showcase his latest work, The Fountain Of Youth.
There will be categories for documentary, animation, experimental, comedy, thriller, and horror movies.
The festival will run from 10.30am to 10pm on the three days, with an awards ceremony wrapping things up on the final day.
Tickets are already on sale at romfordfilmfestival.com/shortfilmfest.
