It has been over 24 hours after many parents received concerning alerts from schools that they would be increasing security protocols due to an incident in the area yesterday (October 9).
Police were called just after 2.30pm after reports at a school in St Andrews Road, with many officers called to the scene.
Here is our timeline and breakdown of everything we know:
Lockdown measures
Multiple schools around the Sidcup area took precautionary action due to the incident.
The News Shopper understands that at least Hope Community School, St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School and Royal Park Primary Academy issued notices to parents and kept children in while police handled the matter in the area.
While the Metropolitan Police has not specified which particular school was targeted, these schools implemented lockdown protocols due to the close proximity to St Andrews Road.
The Royal Park Primary Academy said that it activated its lockdown procedure at around 4.30pm “in response to police advice about a potential external risk in the local area”.
A spokesperson said: “As advised, we kept all children inside the building until we were given the all clear to release them to ensure the immediate safety and security of all children and staff inside the building.
“Our staff and children handled the situation with calmness and maturity.”
Hope Community School and St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School were both contacted for comment.
Man taken to hospital
After officers were called to St Andrews Road, the man suspected of making threats was taken to hospital.
The incident was then stood down and the Met has said there are no other outstanding suspects.
The force added: “Your local safer neighbourhood teams will continue to patrol daily responding to local concerns.”
Investigation launched
Although the incident has been stood down, police have announced today (October 10) that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
