Belle Vue, a Grade II listed farmhouse dating back to the 1700s, has been listed for sale on Rightmove by estate agents Accord.
The building sits in Lower Bedfords Road and is owned by Mogok Dhamma, a Buddhist charity.
For the last three years, it has been used as a monastery.

Jamie Carr, co-director of Accord, said: “It doesn’t get much more quirky than this.
“The owners have only owned it for three years and before that it was owned by a family for quite a few generations.
“It’s a Buddhist community that lives there but I believe they’re relocating to find somewhere more convenient for all of them.”

Mogok Dhamma’s website says the premises is used for prayer and Abidhamma study.
It says: “You may join us for morning chanting” and “join us for Saturday and Sunday Abidhamma classes”.
The property is available for offers in the region of £1million.
In Accord’s listing, it is described as a “Grade II listed farmhouse with character, space, and serious potential” set on a “generous 1.85-acre plot and surrounded by open fields and parkland”.

Despite currently being used as a Buddhist monastery, the layout “naturally lends itself back to residential use – or could suit other purposes, subject to the usual consents”, according to the listing.
The internal layout offers more than 170 square metres of living space across two floors.

Accord said that some areas would benefit from updating, but the home offers a solid base for improvement.
“Outside, the property really stands out,” the listing adds.
“The house sits well back from the road with a gated entrance, ample parking, and fenced boundaries.

“There’s a large outbuilding – roughly 64.5 sqm – made up of multiple sections that could be used for storage, workshops or converted (subject to planning).
“With this much land, the setup could work well for equestrian use or anyone wanting more outdoor space to work with.”
The property is close to Romford and the A12 and Bedfords Park is across the road.
Romford station is around two miles away.
