Belle Vue, a Grade II listed farmhouse dating back to the 1700s, has been listed for sale on Rightmove by estate agents Accord.
The building sits in Lower Bedfords Road and is owned by Mogok Dhamma, a Buddhist charity.
For the last three years, it has been used as a monastery.

Jamie Carr, co-director of Accord, said: “It doesn’t get much more quirky than this.
“The owners have only owned it for three years and before that it was owned by a family for quite a few generations.
“It’s a Buddhist community that lives there but I believe they’re relocating to find somewhere more convenient for all of them.”

Jamie said he doesn’t think the property was ever used as a publicly accessible place of worship.
Mogok Dhamma’s website says the premises is used for prayer and Abidhamma study.
It says: “You may join us for morning chanting” and “join us for Saturday and Sunday Abidhamma classes”.

In Accord’s listing, it is described as a “Grade II listed farmhouse with character, space, and serious potential” set on a “generous 1.85-acre plot and surrounded by open fields and parkland”.
Despite currently being used as a Buddhist monastery, the layout “naturally lends itself back to residential use – or could suit other purposes, subject to the usual consents”, according to the listing.
