The Metropolitan Police has confirmed it is investigating the cause of the fire alongside the London Fire Brigade.

There have been no arrests but enquiries are ongoing.
A large part of the ground floor was on fire and Poundland was left blackened by the blaze.
High Street remains closed to traffic.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At around 04:55hrs on Thursday, 9th October, police were called to reports of a fire in a shop on High Street, Penge.

“Officers attended alongside the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service.
“Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution and no injuries have been reported.
“Police are working alongside the London Fire Brigade to investigate the cause of the fire.
“Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.
