Held by Community Albums, the exhibition aims to celebrate the “generations of local talent” nurtured at Newham Academy of Music.
It was launched on Friday, September 5, at City Hall but has moved to Newham Music in Tarling Road from September 15 to 30.
At the launch event, alumni, community members, music enthusiasts, and civic leaders, including East Ham MP Sir Stephen Timms, explored archival photographs, memorabilia, rare recordings, and personal stories.
Rob May, Community Albums co-founder, said: “The Newham Academy of Music has always been more than just a place to learn – it has been a family, a launchpad, and a creative home for so many people.
“This exhibition is a chance to celebrate that history and ensure its legacy continues to inspire future generations.”
Live performances were given by 15-year-old flautist Anisa Campbell, one of Newham Music’s rising stars, and Newham Academy of Music alumni.
Attendees also heard moving testimonials from former students whose careers in music and beyond were shaped by the academy.
Unmesh Desai, London Assembly Member for City & East, said: “The Newham Academy of Music has long been a cornerstone of our borough’s cultural life for 60 years.
“Its work in nurturing creativity, resilience, and opportunity for young people is truly inspiring, and I was proud to host this celebration of their achievements at City Hall.”
The exhibition is free to attend and will be available to view at various times on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
