Bishops Hill Adult Education Centre could be used for office space when adult community learning moves out at the end of July, according to deputy leader of Essex County Council Louise McKinlay.
It follows recent government changes to funding for adult community learning (ACL) and Essex County Council’s plans to introduce a revised curriculum, with courses focused on supporting wellbeing and people into employment, in September.
Instead of lessons at Bishops Hill, a new network of ACL venues across Brentwood is being introduced, which will include Brentwood Town Hall, Brentwood Library, St Peter’s Church, Hutton Community Centre and the Walter Boyce Centre in Warley.

The courses being offered at Bishops Hill include hairdressing, English for speakers of other languages and emergency first aid at work.
Councillor McKinlay said: ”Adult community learning will be moving out of the Bishops Hill site at the end of July.
“From then on, the service will operate from various outreach locations across Brentwood. The future use of the Bishops Hill building is still being discussed.
“I’ve been informed that potentially includes office space for some social services teams, as well as possible use by other organisations — though nothing has been confirmed yet. We are also exploring some opportunities for use of the outbuildings.”
